Akaba cooked up that detour to Synchro as attempt to gather other strong duelists as allies against Academia.
It was a giant waste of time, and I told him as much.The fastest way to find anyone worthwhile was joining the Friendship Cup, so I dueled for entry in Synchro's Underworld Arena. They arrested me during the match that would have gotten me in.[No thanks to MacField and his pendulums. But well. It will not happen again.]
That prison facility is about as corrupt as everything else in that dimension; respect and favors from guards and prisoners are bought through rare cards. I didn't bother and my cell mates took issue with that.

The last thing I remember before getting here is breaking myself out. [As if he'd stay put in prison, never mind one with guards as pathetic as the ones of the Synchro facility.] According to Gongenzaka, the Lancers were all made part of the Friendship Cup.
